How to convert your handicap index into a course handicap
Example A
John, a member of the Coimbatore golf club wants to play in RCGC, Kolkata. What would be his course handicap from RCGC Blue tees..
These are the details required
John’s GHIN handicap index – 16.4
RCGC Slope rating – 138
RCGC Course rating – 75.3
RCGC par – 72
The formula to convert is as follows.
Course handicap= GHINHandicap Index x Slope/ 113 (+/–) (Course rating – Par)
CH= 16.4 x 138 /113 (+/-) ( 75.3 – 72)
CH = 20.02 + 3.3
CH = 23.32 Rounded off to 23 .
John plays to a course handicap of 23 at RCGC.
Example B
Mike, a member of RCGC, Kolcutta is travelling!P.Coimbatore GC. What would be his course handicap from CGC, white tees?
These are the details required:
Mike‘s GHIN Handicap index – 10.4
CGC Slope rating – 128
CGC Course rating – 71.9
CGC Par – 72
The formula to convert is as follows.
Course handicap= GHINHandicap Index x Slope/ 113 (+/–) (Course rating – Par)
CH= 10.4 x 113/128 (+/-) ( 71.9- 72)
CH= 9.18 – 0.1
CH = 9.08 , Rounded off to 9 .
Mike plays off to a course handicap of 9 at CGC, white tees.
NOTE:– ( Course rating – Par l calculation: if it is positive then ADD as in Ex no 1.
If it’s negative, SUBTRACT as in Ex no 2.
